Review of Hotel Noir d'Ivoire, Marrakech

Fantastic riad, wonderfully decorated, personal care

Noir d’Ivoire really is a fantastic place to stay when staying a few days in Marrakech. The small riad (9 rooms, among them are 3 gorgeous suites) is located in the northern medina of the city (not accessible by car, you will be picked up a few minutes away by employees with a donkey cart, nice …).

Review of Hotel Chez le Pacha, Zagora

Nice setting, but that's it

Chez le Pacha is located in the most southern point of Morocco and beautifully laid out. There are 20 rooms (16 tent rooms and 4 suites), we had one of the latter ones.

Review of Hotel Dar Daif, Ouarzazate

Superb small hotel, nice oriental furnitures, fine food

Dar Daif came as a surprise to us as we hadn’t expected such a lovely hotel in the south of Morocco! It’s located a few kilometers outside of Ouarzazate in a quiet neighbourhood. The hotel is small (only 12 rooms) but can satisfy also the needs of picky travellers.

Review of Hotel Jardins de la Medina, Marrakech

Fantastic garden, nice ambiance

Les Jardins de la Medina is located in the southern medina (accessible by car) in a former palace. The riad (hotel) has a little bit more than 30 rooms (quite a lot for a riad as they have usually only a few rooms).

Our family (with one teen) had a double room „privilège“ which we liked as it was located on the top floor with a bigger room for the adults and a very small adjacent room (without windows) for our son.

My travelogue of Morocco 2009

Our trip to southern Morocco in autumn brought us (I usually travel with my husband and our teenage son) first to Marrakech (one night), then to the south (three nights) meaning via High Atlas to the most southern point of Morocco called M'Hamid (the Sahara desert begins there ...) and back to Marrakech for five more nights.

After a pleasant flight with Easy Jet (actually our first one with this airline) we arrived in Marrakech early in the morning. Our first task - to get a taxi to our first hotel in the medina - turned out to be tedious because these taxi drivers in Morocco are out to cheat the passengers. But never mind ..., after a short ride we safely arrived in our first hotel,

Review of Auberge Ripplecove & Spa, Ayer's Cliff

Fantastic location, but no total satisfaction

This really perfectly situated hotel (by the lake, due to a bay you have access to the water on two sides) is very nice to look at (probably an ancient manor) and has all the infrastructure to be a top hotel.

Review of B&B Frontenac Club Inn, Kingston

Good location, up to hotel standard

It’s the first time for our family staying at a B&B, normally we prefer to go to hotels but as there wasn’t a hotel in Kingston that suited us we went for the Frontenac Club.

Review of Bartlett Lodge, Algonquin Park

True Canadian feelings in cabin by the water

Bartlett Lodge is situated in Algonquin Park and there you can only reach it by boat (only a few minutes from the parking lot). For the first time during our trip through Eastern Canada we had the feeling to sense the real Canada!

Review of Hotel Quintessence, Mont Tremblant

Chic hotel in the mountains with fine food

Hotel Quintessence is located at the outskirts of the village of Mont Tremblant right by the lake. There are only suites in this hotel, and they are quite a find: very spacious, well appointed, all with balcony to the lake.

Review of Hotel Dominion 1912, Quebec

Modern hotel in old town with good personnel

Dominion 1912 is a fine boutique hotel in the old town of Quebec. It is centrally located, modernly furnished and has kind, competent employees.

Review of Hotel Fairmont Le Manor Richelieu, La Malbaie

Impressive state and nice setting

Le Manoir Richelieu is really one hell of a estate, it is majestically located above the St. Lawrence river and surrounded by lots of gardens with walking trails, very beautiful!

Review of Hotel Nelligan, Montreal

Pleasant and trendy hotel in old Montreal

Hotel Nelligan is situated right in the middle of old Montreal meaning some noise from partying people but of course the hotel is equipped with a good air-condition so it doesn’t really matters.

Review of The Halkin Hotel, London

Central and quiet location, fine and classy hotel

The Halkin was for our family (two adults and a teen) the ideal hotel for a sightseeing trip to London. It is conveniently located (near Hyde Park and The Harrods) but in a quiet neighbourhood (Belgravia), and the next tube station is not even five minutes away.

Review of Hotel Schwarz Wellness Resort, Mieming, Tirol

Great hospitality, good activities, fine food, but ...

The „Schwarz“ offers a lot for a reasonable price! The proprietor (family Pirktl) cares for the well-being of the guests showing with all the employees: everyone greets you and wants to please you.

Review of Grand Hotel Miramare, Santa Margherita Ligure

Nicely located hotel

Finally we had the chance to go to the lovely Ligurian seaside. We had our reservations to go to Italy again (after one not too good experience in Tuscany) because often Italian hotels cost a lot and offer not much in return. But we were quite happy here with the Miramare. Not only is the vicinity really great (Portofino by foot, Cinque Terre by train, Camogli by boat a.s.o.) but also the hotel is very nice.

Review of Hotel Castel, Tirolo, South Tyrol

Excellent hotel, wonderful food, beautiful setting

My husband, our teen and myself really enjoyed our stay at the Castel! This is indeed a well managed hotel, all the employees are eager to please you, the rooms are very nice and the best is the wonderful food! Also the setting of the hotel is breathtaking, from the generous laid out terrace and also from all (!) the rooms you have a beautiful view to the adjacent vineyards and the far below situated Merano (Meran) with its surrounding.

Review of Hotel Lemuria Resort, Praslin Island/Seychelles

Superb setting, pleasant hotel

We (my husband, my son – 14 years – and myself) spent six days in this hotel, and this already for the second time (we had been there five years ago). We were delighted that several improvements had been taken place over those years.

Review of Hotel Banyan Tree, Mahe Island/Seychelles

Splendid location, nice secluded hotel

My husband, my son (14 years) and myself spent just under a week there and we loved it. The location is hardly to beat: The hotel is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches I know, but be beware of the rough sea, it's only for very good swimmers.

Review of Zuerserhof, Zuers

Great location & fine food

We (two families, each with a teen) have spent our ski vacations in this hotel for the last five years. The location of Zuerserhof for skiing is perfect: You can ski in and ski out and this in one of the best ski areas I am aware of. You are able not only to ski in Zuers and Lech but also in St. Anton (a bus ride of ten minutes away with the same ski ticket).

Review of Arlberg Hospiz Hotel, St. Christoph am Arlberg

Good location, but ...

We (two families, each with a teen) spent a week there for skiing and the location therefor is really great (one of the best ski areas I know of and the hotel is a real ski in and ski out place).

Review of Hotel Renaissance Paris Vendome, Paris

Favorable location, nice accommodations

Our family stayed a few days at this hotel around new year's eve and had a great time there.

It is situated in a rather quiet street between the Louvre and Place Vendome and is perfectly suited for exploring all the important sights in Paris.

My life as Swiss Traveler - always looking for best hotels and restaurants

As traveling is my dearest hobby, I would like to report on my travel experiences made in various countries worldwide. In the beginning, I am only writing about hotels I stayed at. These must be the best, but only if I get value for money. Later on, I am also planning to include other aspects of traveling.
